Esta es la historia de mi pueblo. Nuestro pueblo. Una historia marcada por la indiferencia y el desencanto; por los deseos frustrados de muchos y los antojos realizados de pocos. Un presente determinado por oportunidades desperdiciadas.
Es importante saber de dónde venimos para poder entender lo que somos.
Nuestra historia comenzó hace mucho tiempo. Largos periodos contados en milenios transcurrieron desde cuando nuestros antepasados poblaron estos hermosos valles andinos bañados por tres ríos. Muchísimo antes de que llegaran los españoles.
Tenemos magníficas obras de arte en rocas y cavernas, las más viejas de hace unos 14.000 mil años. Fósiles en el extenso valle de Cúcuta y Los Patios, donde existieron grandes mastodontes y megaterios que compartieron espacios con nuestros ancestros, quienes seguramente los extinguieron. Restos materiales que muestran múltiples facetas de la vida humana.
Las sociedades maduras son capaces de promover cambios apelando a la decencia y no al hastío; cambian antes de que la realidad dolorosa los obligue. Alguna generación de cucuteños ha de llegar, algún día, que piense más en el otro y no sólo en sí mismo, que trate de entender algunas cosas básicas, que entienda que hay cosas esenciales en la vida que no se transan porque no tienen precio.
Conocer nuestras raíces, como comprender el legado de generaciones pasadas, sustentará nuestra cultura, cimentando identidad y sentido de pertenencia.
